» prof. Pádraig Hogan, National University of Ireland, Maynooth, Ireland

Pádraig Hogan is Professor Emeritus of the National University of Ireland Maynooth. He has a keen research interest in the quality of educational experience and in what makes learning environments conducive to fruitful learning. Prior to retirement he led the research and development programme ‘Teaching and Learning for the 21st Century’ (TL21), an action research initiative with over 70 secondary schools that continues to grow yearly. He is an editorial board member of a number of philosophy of education journals and is currently involved in a number of co-operative research endeavours internationally. To date he has published over 120 research items, including books, journal articles, book chapters and commissioned pieces. His books include The Custody and Courtship of Experience: Western Education in Philosophical Perspective (1995); The New Significance of Learning: Imagination’s Heartwork (2010); Towards a better Future: A Review of the Irish School System (co-authored with J. Julian Stern (email j.stern@yorksj.ac.uk) is Professor of Education and Religion at York St John University.  He was a schoolteacher for fourteen years, and has worked in universities for twenty-eight years.  Julian is widely published, with sixteen books, contributions to twenty-one other books, and over thirty peer-reviewed articles.  He is editor of the British Journal of Religious Education, and General Secretary of ISREV, the International Seminar on Religious Education and Values.  His research ranges across education, including religious education, spirituality, the philosophy of schooling, and solitude, silence and loneliness.  Recent books include A Philosophy of Schooling: Care and Curiosity in Community (2018, @2018Care), Teaching Religious Education: Researchers in the Classroom: Second Edition (2018), Virtuous Educational Research: Conversations on Ethical Practice (2016), Loneliness and Solitude in Schools: How to Value Individuality and Create an Enstatic School (2014).

Stephen R. C. Hicks is Professor of Philosophy at Rockford University, Executive Director of the Center for Ethics and Entrepreneurship, and Senior Scholar at The Atlas Society. He is author of The Art of Reasoning: Readings for Logical Analysis (W. W. Norton & Co., 1998), Explaining Postmodernism: Skepticism and Socialism from Rousseau to Foucault (Scholargy, 2004), Nietzsche and the Nazis (Ockham’s Razor, 2010), Entrepreneurial Living (CEEF, 2016), and Liberalism Pro and Con (Connor Court, 2020). He has published in Business Ethics Quarterly, Review of Metaphysics, and The Wall Street Journal. His writings have been translated into eighteen languages. He has been Visiting Professor of Business Ethics at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., a Visiting Fellow at the Social Philosophy & Policy Center in Bowling Green, Ohio, Visiting Fellow at Harris Manchester College of Oxford University, and Visiting Professor at the University of Kasimir the Great, Poland. His B.A. and M.A. degrees are from the University of Guelph, Canada. His Ph.D. in Philosophy is from Indiana University, Bloomington. In 2010, he won his university’s Excellence in Teaching Award.
